From the Fl!p Your Thinking Vitality Deck:
I do not RESIST AGING - I ENJOY THE JOURNEY
I sent an email to a friend who turns 64 day. This is what
he wrote back:
Thanks Rebecca for celebrating with me.
Remember when we thought 64 was really old?
It is.
And there are adventures ahead, much like when I was 23.
This friend is physically active (sea kayaking around the world), open to helping others,
and still working at his profession.
Looking back with regret that our lives (or bodies) are not
what they once were is depressing.
Instead, imagine that you are hiking up a mountain and every so often
you stop to look at the view and to look at how far you’ve climbed! There is joy in accomplishment. There is
vitality in knowing that there is a path ahead and that you’re still walking!
Focus on the horizon. Life is an adventure. You never
know what little flower will pop out of the snow near the trail, if a whale will breach just
as you gaze out to sea, or if the clouds will part just long enough to give you a blazing sunset. Keep your eyes up to catch the smile of a
stranger. Listen for laughter. It’s all around us. Pay attention.
Be true,
Rebecca
.
Good observation Carol. Thanks!

Love the idea of looking how far you've climbed. There's a corollary in there about living in the present. I think about it every time I am riding my bicycle up the looooong hill back to my house. Looking too far ahead is really quite discouraging; I've found it easier to look no more than ten or so feet ahead. It's good to have goals, but once you have them, focus on the steps it takes to reach them (pedal pedal pedal).
